From our modest remote ranch headquarters in the lush Fox River Valley at the head of spectacular Kachemak Bay on Alaska’s Kenai Peninsula we base our operations, raise our hardy Alaskan horses and take some of our horseback adventures. We provide overnight, several day and up to eighteen-day horseback safaris, eco tours, sightseeing, fishing and hunting pack trips into the Kenai National Wildlife Refuge.

Quality fully guided horseback and fly in hunts are also available

The Kenai Peninsula is a unique area in Alaska as it has a little of everything the rest of the state has to offer. From its majestic mountains with giant blue glaciers, striking Fjords, bountiful marine estuaries, lush grasslands, willow flats and rolling tundra, inhabited by a myriad of wildlife and wildfowl. The rivers and streams are rich with abundant salmon, trout and char. All varieties of Pacific Salmon may be found the waters as well as wild Rainbow and Dolly Varden. The coastal waters abound with Sea Otter, seals, halibut, rockfish, salmon and cod.

The Wades, Dennis, Susie, Laralie and Wina live work and play in what we think is one of the world’s extraordinary places. Our headquarters are nine miles from the nearest maintained road. Your guide outfitter Dennis Wade is a second-generation outfitter with over 25 years experience guiding outdoor enthusiasts in Alaska.

Our horses are one of the loves of our life. We raise, train and use gentle Alaska Pioneer horses. Some of our bloodline dates back to the gold rush era. On our horseback vacations we work with our clients so that they may have a more pleasurable horseback adventure. We can provide riders of any ability a quality horseback experience. We do not provide hourly or partial day tail rides. Our shortest trips are two-day overnight excursions giving a person more time to enjoy the whole Alaskan experience and get to know their horse.

"Some trust in chariots and some in horses,
but we trust in the name of the LORD our God."
~ Psalms 20.7 NIV BIBLE~

Our goal is for you to experience Alaska and Alaskan Hospitality off the beaten track in a quality and affordable manor. Our services are varied and if needed we will endeavor to customize your Alaskan adventure to your wishes.

Fishing information

Our horseback fishing adventures occur from the end of May through mid to late the middle of October. We have remote fishing for Salmon, Rainbow Trout and Dolly Varden.

The first Pacific Salmon to enter the Kenai Peninsula waters are the Chinook or King Salmon. The only remote Chinook area available to us is a catch and release river on the Northern Kenai. We can provide riverbank fishing on the Anchor River May and Early June for Chinook, the largest of the Pacific Salmon.

The next salmon to run the rivers are the Sockeye or Red Salmon. These salmon begin running in good quantities the middle to the third week in June and last until the middle of July. Fishing is done with fly or spinning tackle toward the middle of the Sockeye run the Dolly Varden join the sport. We have trophy class Dollies that may be as large as an average size Sockeye. The Dolly Varden stay in the streams until after the last of the salmon spawn. Dolly Varden are char and are cousins to Arctic Char and Brook Trout.

On the tail fins of the Sockeye are the Chum Salmon and Pink or Humpback Salmon. Chum Salmon are unusually marked salmon with vertical tiger stripes deepening in color the longer they are in fresh water.

The grand finale of salmon is the Coho, or Silver Salmon. Appearing in our waters the second week of August. These scrappers will fight so hard and keep you jumping until your arms give out. Clients have been known to just sit on the bank and watch them after landing them one after another for hours. On light tackle or with fly equipment these magnificent beauties bring the true meaning to sport fishing.

Hunt Information and Dates

Most of our hunts will be old-time horseback pack trips into the Mystery Hills Wilderness Area, Kenai National Wildlife Refuge and Chugach National Forest The wilderness areas are within my exclusive guide area on the northern Kenai Peninsula part of the Kenai National Wildlife Refuge.

The hunts we will have available the fall of 2005 are August Dall Sheep combination hunts.

The first hunt would be a ten-day Dall Sheep and black bear hunt from August 9th through the18th. There could also be the moderate possibility of drawing for a caribou tag. The sheep and black bear tags are available for purchase over the counter.

The second hunt, August 19th through the 28th or 30th for ten or twelve days would be a Dall sheep, moose and black bear combination hunt. Dall sheep would be with the prime objective. Once again with the possibility of drawing a caribou tag.

Our third hunt (August 31-September 9) and fourth hunt (September 11- 20) are the same as the second hunt however first priority on Moose.

There is a late drawing Moose hunt in October and November. This would be for a combination moose, black bear wolf and wolverine. Contact us for drawing information.

Mountain goat registration hunts begin November 1 and are subject to ADFG area openings. This hunt is for the physically fit and may not involve horses.
